Review: Audrey Hepburn: Portraits of An Icon

A few weeks ago now I was very kindly given complimetary tickets to pop along to the Audrey Hepburn photography exhibition at the National Portrait Gallery. I've always been a massive fan of Audrey, in fact she's my go to when I need some inspiration for a dressing up party. Or in everyday life! To be given a sneak peak into over 70 images - some from her son's private collection - was fascinating. It was so interesting to read all about this wonderful woman's life. She really was such an icon. Sadly I wasn't allowed to take any pictures inside Portraits of An Icon but take it from me, the photos were stunning. I especially loved the collection of her magazine front covers and seeing the actress change over the years. To see where she came from and to what she eventually ended up being was awe-inspiring. I didn't realise she did so much work for charity.

It's running until 18th October 2015. Although tickets are sold out online, there's a limited number of tickets released at the gallery at 10am every morning. It's well worth getting up early for!

Review: The Power Of Poison Exhibition, London

Today I was very kindly invited to have a wander around The Power Of Poison exhibition in Brick Lane, East London. Based in the Turman Brewery, the exhibition takes you on a journey about the wonders and dangers of poison and toxics. With live animals, it was fascinating to find out that many of them actually get their toxics from the plants they digest. I loved the myth busting section - did you know the Mad Hatter in Alice In Wonderland gets it name because the mercury in the hat making caused the hatters to go a bit loopy?  I also didn't realise that Cleopatra had committed suicide!

The exhibition is great for all ages. We as young -ha! - 26 year found the information on display so interesting and we spotted some children too enjoying themselves chattering away while their parents were engrossed in the displays. It was a great place to lose a few hours and learn something new.

The exhibition is running until 6th September and tickets are priced at £9 for an adult. Make sure you book your tickets quick!

Top 3 brunch places in London

Recently I've become a massive fan of going out for brunch. Especially in London where the options seem to be endless. Below are three of my favourites so far - I'm still yet to try every place but believe me when I say I'm working on it!

1. Caravan, Kings Cross and Exmouth Market
Kings Cross has really had a makeover in recent years and it's full of little cool places to eat. None more so than Caravan in Granary Square. This industrial looking place is very trendy. The menu comes on a wooden clip board, the milk in mini milk bottles, the unisex loos which confused my dear old nan) and the canteen style tables. This only makes me love it! I had the baked eggs complete with smoked sausage and delicious crusty sourdough. The Greek yogurt proved to be the perfect partner to the tomato and pepper mixture underneath the fried egg. The portion was the perfect size and kept me full till lunch. I've also sampled the jalapeno cornbread which gets a massive thumbs up.

2. The Riding House Cafe, Fiztovia
Located just off Oxford Street behind Topshop, this brunch place is the perfect place to fuel up before a hard days shopping. That chorizo hashbrown pictured? I'm still dreaming about it! With a perfect runny poached egg on top, it was absolutely delicious. I've also gobbled down the avocado on toast which was equally tasty. I must give a shout out to the staff who are very attentive but also don't rush you. They let you take your sweet time having a catch up which is always a plus. So many places slam the bill on the table just as you've eaten your last mouthful. Once again I love the cool industrial vibe of the place and am a sucker for somewhere trendy.

3. The Breakfast Club, Hoxton, Spitalfields, Battersea and Soho
Blogger Clichรฉ it may be but there's a reason why The Breakfast Club is all over your Bloglovin' feed. You'll be rewarded with huge portions and exploding taste buds when you order here - I've only been to the Hoxton branch. After much deliberation I opted for the breakfast burrito oozing with chunks of chorizo, scrambled egg, charred roasted peppers, juicy Portobello mushrooms, creamy guacamole, melted cheddar and a spicy pepper sauce. Heaven on a plate. You'll definitely get your money's worth here and there's something for everyone to munch on.

Any brunch places you'd like to recommend? I'm always on the lookout!

Emirates Air Line

At the weekend my boyfriend and I has a spare few hours in London while we were waiting for friends and decided to do something we hadn't done before. After lots of suggestion to choose to brave the DLR and  head over to the Emirates Air Line. Can you believe it's two years old? It feels like only yesterday it was being built!

After being told it was a mere 15 minutes queue we excitedly purchased our boarding passes - £3.30 if you have a pre paid oyster or travelcard. I'm a sucker for a good view and this was amazing. I never tire of seeing my favourite city from high up. There's not quite another skyline like it in my opinion. You could see the o2 Arena, Olympic Stadium, the Orbit and Canary Wharf to name a few. I can't wait to go again in the winter and see the city all lit up and looking pretty.

Have you ever been on the cable cars?

Whitecross Street Market

I very rarely spend much time in the city at the weekend - it's always so quiet and not much really goes on. It looks like a ghost town when you wander down the streets on a Saturday with hardly anyone around you and all the the shops are closed. So when I found out Whitecross Market was open for one weekend only I made the journey into town. Usually the market is only enjoyed by booted and suited city workers during the working week.

I met up with Lily, Hannah and Lauren armed with a few cheeky cans of Pimms in my bag and we set up shop on a kerb in front of the music canopy. The sun was out in force and we put the world to rights whilst being serenaded by a variety of singers. When my belly started to grumble we had a little wander to see what took our fancy. I opted for a burger - is it ever anything else? - stuffed with cheese and bacon finished off with a red velvet cupcake and a cake pop thrown in for the craic.

After the market packed up shop at 6pm, we wandered down to the lakes at the Barbican to bask in the sun for a few more hours. It was such a perfect way to spend a Saturday and i'll be sure to try and make more of an effort to enjoy the city more often.

Chinatown

Another trip around London with the last one being a tour of Brick Lane. Admittedly I haven't actually eaten in Chinatown (a buffet doesn't count!) despite it being on my London bucket list but I have spent many a day wandering around. Tucked away behind Leicester Square, it's a series of winding roads filled with Chinese bakeries, restaurants, hairdressers and supermarkets. You won't find just Chinese eateries though, i've spotted Vietnamese, Korean and Japanese.  It's always hustling and bustling with tourists and locals alike roaming the streets. The big gates at the entrance and exit makes the perfect photo opportunity. If you're ever in London, it makes a great trip as Oxford Street and Piccadilly are both within a short walking distance. It would be a shame to pass it by!

Classic Car Bootsale

Last weekend Lily and I decided to hit up the Classic Car Bootsale on the Southbank after hearing about it on Twitter. It was a car boot with a bit of a vintage twist. Set out of the back of some amazing classic cars there was a mix of handmade goods, vintage clothing, bric and brac and cracking street food. We had such amazing weather and it was lovely to mooch around at a leisurely pace peaking at all the bits and bobs on display. It was a fantastic place to people watch and seeing people in full vintage clobber makes me wish I'd mastered that victory roll and wasn't so lazy in my dressing. I sense a vintage shop trip to Brick Lane coming soon....
